At the close of the twentieth century, two-year colleges enrolled 5,743,000 students, 96 percent of whom attended public community colleges. Nearly 40 percent of all undergraduate students attended community and junior colleges. Between 1900 and 2000 the significance of this sector of higher education grew enormously. Come learn and explore why these two year institutions of higher learning are vital to the American fabric and what it looks like now and where it may go in the future.
